Borrow your ladder?

My next door neighbor and I were talking over the weekend. I asked if I could borrow a ladder to fix my outdoor lighting. As we headed to the garage to get it, he stopped and said, "Sorry buddy, but I lent it to my son."

Recalling a old saying, I said, "You should never lend anything to your kids, because you will never get it back."

With that, he responded, "Well, that's okay, it's not even my ladder. It's my dad's."
