He took it to Weaver's Garage in Verona. On Sunday, he came to our church. He told me after church that I should go get it and take it back to the Mill.
Martha and I were driving together, so we went there after church. The truck was locked and the key was inside the garage, which was closed.
Chris (from the shop) took me to Weaver's Garage at 1:00 PM on the 31st. We got there and got the key very easily. I started the truck and performed the air brake check.
First, I had to get the pressure up to operating pressure. Then I shut the truck off and released the parking brake. Then I pressed the service brake and the pressure in either gauge didn't drop at all. Much Better!
The second part is to turn the key on and pump the brakes to remove the pressure from the system. At 60 psi, the Brake Pressure warning light and/or buzzer will come on. At 40-20 psi the parking brake will activate.
The last part is to pull against the parking brake to make sure it will hold.
We got on the road about 1:30 PM.
Right onto North 11, in front of Ingelside.
I started to go through the gears but didn't change to high range.
I had to stop and start over, because it wouldn't go into any gear.
Right at next stop light into Green Hills Technology Center.
Turned-around so that I could go back out the bypass.
Left at light onto South 11.
Right onto 275.
Right onto Churchville Ave.
Left onto Frog Pond Road (612).
I thought it would be easy to stay in the gear that I was in (8th) and shift to low range.
It didn't shift to low range, and I almost stalled.
I stopped and then started in 3rd.
Left on 254.
Right on William Cousins Road.
Right on Cedar Green.
Did the same thing I did at 612. Stayed in the same gear but tried to shift to low range.
Started off in 6th.
Couldn't find 7th because it had shifted to low range.
Right on Hebron Road.
Left on Eidson Creek Road.
Shifted out of 8th. Changed ranges, and shifted into 4th.
I finally figured out that it wouldn't change ranges until it was in neutral.
Right on Glebe School Road.
Left on Miller Farm Road.
Left again on Miller Farm Road.
Left into the Mill.
Parked on the ledge beside the South Lumber Yard.
It was an interesting experience! Loved it. Much more difficult to drive than a school bus. :-)
